Inspired by my transformation from a shy person to an outgoing person, "A Robins Journey" depicts the type of bird, robin, flying from the left which is filled with cool colors, to the right, which is filled with warm colors. In the middle, the taekwondo belt colors in order from bottom to top. Colored pencil was used on the robin and both liquid water color and sharpie were used on the background. Janet Fish Inspired Still LifeJanet Fish has made many still life’s that include lots of glasses, flowers, and liquids. She used very thick, unique strokes with oil pastel to show the illusion of glass or water or flowers. Mine is similar to hers because of my expressive style, and popping the highlights out a lot. Oil pastel was used for all of this piece. Gestural Drawings The point of these gestural drawings was to capture a person doing something. We did ten minute studies on these poses, so there was plenty of time to capture their expression and pose. We then worked back into these gestures with any media. The media I used from top to bottom was chalk, oil pastel, and sharpie marker. I spent a little bit of time on each, quickly coloring in values and adding a creative background to each. Chalk Pastel LandscapeThis landscape is done in all chalk pastel. I chose to do my Grandparents backyard because I felt a sense of calmness when looking at the image. The background was done with less detail and more blending of many colors and consists of the sky, trees, and water. The middle ground was where a bit more detail was placed in the two trees. The foreground took the most amount of time, because I had to take in every detail of the grass. Tyrone Geter Inspired Expressive PortraitThis piece was inspired by the gestural and expressive pieces by Tyrone Geter. I wanted to depict myself in nature, relaxed because nature relaxes me. Then, I wanted to draw my dogs with me because I value them. Myself and my dogs were done in pencil. The tree bark in the background was done in colored pencil. The rest of the background was done in magazine. My piece is similar to Tyrone Geter because I collaged something into my piece just like he does. I also used more gestural lines when working on my dogs.
