Darkness-Distressed media, white gel pen, acrylic paint, wax twine
At the beginning of this project, I had no ideas, and was holding myself back from doing anything related to animals because people have told me to stop drawing them. I decided to implement this feeling into the theme, "darkness," by gluing shattered pieces of an animal drawing to a distressed water color background, then cover them with red paint. To the right, a girl, that represents me, with stop in red all over her, telling her to stop drawing animals. If you look closely, behind the shattered pieces there is a panther done in colored pencils that I didn't like so I covered it up!
Natural/Organic-Fabric, Spanish moss, marker, colored pencil
My intent was to do a tribute to Chris McCandless, the man who hitchhiked to Alaska to try to live in the wild. During his adventures, he hunted a moose, so I wanted my fabric to have a moose on it. The bus is the place where he lived for a few months until his death in August, 1992. Finally, there a song lyrics from the song, "Society," which was also a poem found with his body.
Character-acrylic paint, copic marker, micron
For character, I wanted to draw three of my main characters! The lavender background represents my favorite color, whilst the question mark and exclamation mark represent me coming up with my ideas. Three of my characters, from left to right, Rain, Red, and Z are jumping out of a cloud.
Fluidity-thread,sharpie,acrylic paint
For Fluidity, I wanted to draw two people that are in sync in dancing. They are always together, and seem like one person, flowing through the moves. The orange circles complement the blue, and represent complete and infinity.
Relationships-playing cards, acrylic paint, marker
For relationships, I wanted to draw an innocent human falling for someone they can't have. The butterflies are made of playing cards, and represent the feeling you get when you are around that one person. The gold was put in to help the movement of the butterflies, but also causes a warm feeling in your chest, just like the background.
Tattoo- Sharpie, Copics, Acrylic paint
The inspiration I had for this piece was quite saddening. A YouTuber I watched went through s very tough time because her mother had been diagnosed with colon cancer. Unfortunately, the mother did pass away after a pretty short battle. However, before her death, they got matching tattoos on their wrists. In the art, one can see the tattoo and white lines coming out of it that represent memories. One day, all you will have is memories.
Anatomy-Sharpie, Colored Pencil, Puffy Paint
There is not much of a meaning behind this piece. We were doing gesture drawings in class, and I wanted to try that style with wolves! So, I researched images of wolves, and practiced the anatomy of them. I wanted to add a little bit of my creative taste, so I made three of the wolves elemental to create movement.
Texture-Paper, Acrylic Paint, Copics
I love birds, so I wanted to create a bird with texture using paper. I decided to only do one wing on paper because I wanted there to be emphasis. The white pieces of paper in the background create movement.
La Fiesta- Buttons, Marker, Paint
Due to the grestural drawings done in class, I was very inspired to create a dancing figure that looked messy. The buttons create movement by making your eye move all over the place. The yellow background represents something or someone bringing their brightness everywhere they go and “bringing the party” with them.
Fashion-Comic Book, Marker, button/other mixed media
As one knows, I don’t love drawing humans, which is why I decided to create pet fashion! We have polar opposites, a dog, and a cat that are showing off their snazzy outfits! I chose to outline them in red and green to show that they are polar opposites.
Culture-Photography,marker, charcoal, crayon
I chose to make this theme in all black and white due to the picture of me being black and white. To the right, I have things that make me who I am! I love animals, love art, music, I’m Catholic, I’m American, and my origins come from Italy. I used charcoal in the background for a distressed look.
Art- Collage, colored pencil, paper, white gel pen
For this theme, I wanted to show my progress throughout the years of me drawing. With the guided purple card stock, one can see the improvement that has been made. Cutting out these sketches from mostly old sketchbooks made me very nostalgic, and this was a very fun prompt. I went back in with a brown colored pencil to try to pop those colors.
Career-transparency, marker, white gel pen
For career, I decided to make fake magnifying glasses that depict three careers I have thought about pursuing. From left to right they are, animator, veterinarian, and farmer. I put the dinosaur skull to show that you have to search for the career you want to pursue.
Comedy-Paint, Pencil, Marker
For comedy, I decided to do a tribute to one of my favorite youtubers who I consider a comedian, Shane Dawson. On the left, I drew him in pencil. On the right I drew the Illuminati symbol because he likes conspiracies, the pig because that’s basically his mascot, and a rainbow cake because he likes food. The words on the bottom can be found on his iconic “Oh My God Pig” shirt.
Form- melted crayon, marker, white gel pen
An animal is a form, and lemurs are my favorite animals! This lemur was done in all melted crayon, except for the eyes and some facial features which was done in marker. The tree is done in regular crayon and melted crayon. The grass and sky are all done in marker and white gel pen. This prompt was the most fun prompt I have done, and will continue to do melted crayon projects in the future.
